From January 2011, the Unthank School of Writing will offer creative writing courses for all levels with expert tutors in a friendly and supportive environment, in central Norwich.

Booking opens today for the ten-week courses in poetry, prose fiction and screenwriting, and all writers are welcome, from those just beginning to those with more experience. So if you have novel hidden in a drawer somewhere, or an idea for a short story whirring around your head, or if you see the world as poems, or as scenes from a film, but haven’t yet had the confidence to put pen to paper, then at Unthank there is a course for you. Here you can explore your creative potential and develop your craft. In small groups, led by expert tutors, writers will come together to learn what makes a novel engaging, what makes a poem tick, and what makes a film script leap on to the screen.

All six tutors in our team are successful writers in their fields: published novelists and poets, and script writers with many broadcast credits. They’re also skilled and experienced teachers, committed to bringing the best out of writers, with encouragement and humour.

Our tutors are: Andrew McDonnell and Helen Ivory (Poetry); Sarah Bower and Ashley Stokes (Prose Fiction) and Christabelle Dilks and Ian Nettleton (Screenwriting).

‘The Unthank School of Writing will provide a springboard for writers of all backgrounds to develop in a structured and convivial atmosphere.’ Ashley Stokes, Director.

Introductory courses will start with the basics for less experienced writers, and build confidence in writing either fiction, poetry or scripts. Advanced workshop courses will enable more experienced writers to share their work, and receive constructive feedback to help hone their skills and develop their own writing projects. These affordable, ten-week courses will run in central Norwich on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7-9 pm, for three terms each year, starting January, April, and September. Enrolment is open now for courses starting January 2011.
